Introduction of Applied Plasma Laboratory
As Cimpl (Center for interaction with materials and plasma : one of Fusion Core Research Centers in Korea) ,cEps (Center for Edge Plasma Science: one of Fusion Core Research Centers in Korea) and ePAL (Electric Probe Application Lab.: one of National Research Laboratories in Korea), our laboratory has carried out advanced research activities on nuclear fusion technology, plasma diagnostics, plasma medicine and etc. Recently, we have researched for dust interactions with plasma and surfaces called as “DiPS”, by using a linear plasma device called DiPS (Divertor Plasma Simulator).
With the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) team, our lab. has studied on plasma phenomenon at SOL (Scrape Off Layer), the interaction of plasmas with surfaces and the transport and removals of dust produced in tokamaks. Also, our Ph.D. and M.D. students learn and research nuclear fusion and universe plasma, semiconductor, display, medicine plasma through technique of plasma physics, consistently. For example, one of recent researches is diagnostics of plasma by OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy), LTS (Laser Thomson Scattering), LIF (Laser Induced Fluorescence) and electric probe systems, contributed to nuclear fusion fields such as measurement of edge plasmas, interpretation of heat flux to the wall surface, which are the most important research part in order to maintain long time operations for KSTAR, ITER and the other tokamaks. For above research activities, our lab. has DiPS, which is a plasma linear machine. It has been developed for application of probe technique to various areas, such as divertor plasma simulation in fusion devices, processing plasma diagnostics as ion and electron energy measurements in semiconductor process, and space plasma simulation with flow measurement at magnetic nozzle of a space propulsion system.
